Introducing two bills into the House in one week is no easy feat, but that is just what our office accomplished. I introduced the Medicare Opioid Safety Education Act of 2018 to improve efforts to educate seniors on opioid alternatives through the Medicare Part D program as well as the Strengthening Partnerships to Prevent Opioid Abuse Act that will facilitate greater and more meaningful collaboration between CMS and industry stakeholders to identify instances in which a provider is overprescribing opioids or is engaging in fraud and abuse and endangering the well-being of America’s seniors. It is my hope that these bills will not only help educate our constituents on the risks of opioid use but also assist industry leaders in engaging in responsible prescribing practices.
Washington Wrap Up
Small business owners from our district came by to talk about the challenges that they are facing as business owners. Owning a franchise allows hard-working men and women to achieve the American dream and run their own business. As someone who spent most of my career owning and operating businesses, it has been my goal in Congress to enact laws that create an environment to make it easier for businesses to grow and create more jobs.
My staff was grateful to meet with the Reconnecting Youth Campaign whose mission is to help opportunity youth or individuals age 16-24 who have dropped out of school or are unemployed, re-engage with their education and careers. Through projects like Youth Build and AmeriCorps, young people can earn an education while attaining technical skills in fields like residential construction and nursing. I have always believed that helping youth succeed is a priority and will help make our country great for generations to come.
This past week my office was honored to be present providing veteran resources at American Legion Post 166’s Veterans Resource Fair. It is so important that we help our vets that are willing to sacrifice everything for their country.
My district staff also recognized over 500 local enlistees at Northeast Ohio Foundation of Patriotism’s Our Community Salute event. These young men and women will soon be serving our great nation and protect American interests across the world. Thank you for your service and dedication.
As always, thanks for allowing me to represent the 16th district in our nation’s capital.
