The President delivered his first State of the Union address Tuesday in the House Chamber, championing the success of his first year in office, and how we as a nation use this momentum to build a safe, strong, and proud America. Over the past year, Congress has passed the most comprehensive tax reform since 1986, the stock market has reached all-time highs, and our border security is taking significant steps to protect our citizens.
On Tuesday I spoke with Wills & Snyder in the Morning on WTAM 1100 about the upcoming State of the Union address that was to happen later that day. You can listen to my segment here.
Washington Wrap Up
This week, my staff met with the Ohio Corn and Wheat Association to discuss issues important to Ohio farmers. Ohio is 8th in the country in corn for grain production and 18th in wheat for grain production. As Congress begins to reauthorize the Farm Bill this year, it is important that Ohio’s farmer’s voices are heard.
On Monday, I led a letter to the Secretary of the Navy signed by every member of the Ohio delegation, which advocated for a future naval vessel to be named after President William McKinley. McKinley, who was born in Ohio, served as a Member of Congress and as Governor of Ohio before becoming President. Monday marked the 175th anniversary of his birth.
I also spoke in front of the House Ways and Means Oversight subcommittee hearing, where I discussed the Improper Tax Payments Reduction Act of 2017 and the Stolen Identity Refund Fraud Prevention Act of 2017.
My staff met with Paulette Snyder who is chairing Operation Purple for the National Military Family Association at the Canal Fulton Canoe Livery Memorial Day weekend. My veterans staffer will be one of the speakers for the kickoff event on May 25th at the Upper Deck Restaurant in Akron.
My veterans’ staffers also attended a meeting in Columbus organized by the office of Rep. Bill Johnson bringing both House and Senate Veteran caseworkers from all districts in Ohio together to share best practices and contribute each of their individual strategies for success in assisting Ohio Veterans with federal agencies and issues.
Thursday, my staff attended the Wayne County Women’s Network luncheon series “Women’s Network Power Luncheon” at the Wooster Inn. The speaker was Dr. Sharon Marcanthony, OBGYN at Wooster Community Hospital.
