Human Validation

Good Morning,

This week in Washington focused on two things: passing the budget and continuing our path towards tax reform.  In addition to the budget and tax reform, I joined a bipartisan group of over 170 House lawmakers in pushing for money that Congress designates for medical research within the Department of Defense. These programs provide millions of dollars for research into medical issues and diseases that affect our service members and their families. Together, we wrote a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committee requesting that the final text of this year’s National Defense Authorization Act be free of any language that may weaken the programs, discourage researchers from partnering with the Department of Defense, and ultimately have a negative impact on service members and their families. Watch my week in review here.

Media Mashup

CNBC ran my opinion piece on why I decided to vote on the budget so we can move on towards tax reform.  Read full article here.

I spoke with Varney & Co. on Fox Business on Thursday regarding the budget vote and the push for tax reform.  Watch the segment here.

Washington Wrap Up

This week the House passed the FY18 budget with my support. This unlocks the ability to use budget reconciliation as a vehicle to pass tax reform.  It is important that Congress delivers on its promise to the American people to deliver on tax reform.  Americans need to keep more of their pay-check and our businesses need to be more competitive so they can create more jobs.

I also joined a bipartisan group of over 170 House lawmakers in pushing for money that Congress designates for medical research within the Department of Defense.

I voted for the Iran Ballistic Missile and International Sanctions Enforcement Act, legislation I am proud to have cosponsored and which passed the House of Representatives with broad, bipartisan support. This legislation would strengthen reporting on the supply chains Iran uses to further its ballistic missile program so the United States can implement more effective sanctions to counter this rogue regime. It would also implement sanctions on those who assist Iran with its ballistic missile program and help it acquire arms prohibited by the U.N. Security Council. I look forward to the Senate passing this important legislation as well.

District Doings

Last week, my staff visited Accurate Medical Supply, Inc. in Parma Heights for their ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening. Accurate Medical Supply has another office in Tallmadge, Ohio where they have been serving many individuals in their recovery from injuries and surgeries. I excitedly welcome Accurate Medical Supply, Inc. to Parma Heights and the 16th district community.

Each Wednesday, I like to shed a light on fantastic women and their career accomplishments in our 16 th District.  This week’s spotlight was Lisa Followay, Founder and Executive Director of Adaptive Sports Programs of Ohio (ASPO).  Read more about her accolades here.  If you would like to nominate someone for our #WorkingWomenWednesday campaign, send your nominations to tax.questions@mail.house.gov.

As always, thanks for allowing me to represent the 16th district in our nation’s capital.
