Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement commemorating the 12th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks:
“It may seem hard to believe that 12 years ago today terrorists embarked on the deadliest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. Over 3,000 of our fellow countrymen lost their lives in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and while attempting to regain control of a hijacked airplane now believed to have been on a course to destroy the United States Capitol building.
“In those dozen years, hundreds of thousands of America’s best and brightest have taken the fight to Al Qaeda, the Taliban and a rogue dictator in Iraq. Since then we have avoided a major attack on the homeland in large part due to the tireless efforts of our Armed Forces and the members of the intelligence community, who combat terrorism in the shadows and often without acknowledgement.
“While we mourn the loss of those tragically killed by a broken and perverse ideology – both at home and heroically on the field of battle – we also honor those who keep us safe and pledge once again never to forget the terrible lessons of a day that must be remembered so it will never be repeated.”
Rep. Renacci is serving his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
