Washington, DC—Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) tonight released the following statement in response to the State of the Union Address:
“While the American people recognize that the pathway forward is not lined with the policies of the past two years, it’s unfortunate that tonight the President failed to demonstrate that he heard the message our nation sent to Washington last November. In order to restore growth to our economy and bring restraint to our budget, it’s imperative that we infuse stability and predictability back into the marketplace and depart from the policies of the last two years that were defined by higher taxes, bigger government and reckless spending.
The President’s proposals tonight to raise taxes on small business owners, preserve the job-crushing health care bill and his embrace of the status quo on government spending were deeply disappointing. It is my hope that in the two years that remain in the current Congress, the President will demonstrate a willingness to work with our Party and with the American people to pay more than lip service to the values and the vision we need to remedy the problems of the past and move our nation forward.”
