Press Releases

Medina, OH - On November 4th, at 1P.M., Congressman Jim Renacci will be hosting a medals presentation for WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans. The ceremony will include a special recognition for Borinqueneer Francisco Colon, whose unit received the Congressional Gold Medal.  The ceremony is to take place at Brookdale Medina South, 100 High Point Drive, Medina, OH 44256

The Congressional Gold Medal is one of the highest civilian awards in the United States, awarded to a person who has made a major achievement and impact on American history and culture. Travel permitting, the Congressional Gold Medal of the U.S. Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment will be shown at Brookdale Medina South from 1P.M. to 2P.M.

Colon was a member of the U.S. Army’s 65th Infantry Regiment, the first segregated Hispanic military unit and the first unit of the Korean War to receive the distinction.  He was unable to attend the original ceremony in September 2016, so Congressman Renacci arranged for the Congressional Gold Medal to be brought to Brookdale Medina South.
