Cleveland, OH – This afternoon, Congressman Renacci (R-OH) congratulated soon-to-be graduates at the Empowering Cleveland’s Youth Luncheon at Cuyahoga Community College.
“Growing up, strong mentors were essential in guiding me and it is a pleasure to see other impactful mentors shaping our youth today,” said Renacci. “I am honored to be able to address these outstanding students as they head towards graduating from the Empowerment program.”
In January, Renacci introduced H.Res. 683, Recognizing January 2018 as “National Mentoring Month.” Growing up in a small, blue-collar town to a railroad-working father and nurse mother, mentors played a key role in his development from an early age and he credits these influences with his passion for hard work and dedication, becoming the first in his family to graduate from college.
Empower Cleveland Youth is a community-wide partnership managed by the Cleveland Leadership Center that supports urban youth and inspires and nurtures them to be tomorrow’s leaders. The program was piloted in 2016 under the guidance and support of Renacci and other civic leaders who themselves benefitted from mentoring experiences, including Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson; Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE, President and CEO of The MetroHealth System; Frederick Nance, Global Managing Partner at Squire Patton Boggs LLP; and Russ Mitchell, Managing Editor and Anchor at WKYC-TV.
