Dear Friend,

Looking for something fun to do in the community this weekend?  Today is the first day of the three-day ‘Pro Football Hall of Fame 2016 Balloon Classic’.  Big thanks to the Canton Regional and Jackson-Belden Chambers of Commerce who continue to collaborate to create this great event.

Earlier this week, I visited with Jackson Township Trustee President Todd Hawke, Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce President Steve Meeks, and volunteers as they were setting up for the festival (pictured below).  Learn more details about the Balloon Classic here

Washington Wrap-Up

Even though there were no votes in the House this week, my colleague across the aisle – U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) – and I introduced the Hospital Quality Rating Transparency Act of 2016, H.R. 5927 to delay the release of hospital ratings until the methodology behind the ratings is released, confirmed accurate, and the public is given the opportunity to provide their input.  Hospitals, especially teaching hospitals, have raised concerns these ratings are not adequately reflecting their performance.  Earlier this year, I was joined by 224 other Members of Congress in sending a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) urging a delay of the hospital ratings.  I am disappointed to say CMS released the ratings this week without sharing the data and methodology used with the hospitals and the public.  Americans deserve the most accurate and transparent information about where they receive their health care treatment and CMS should provide the data and methodology to be truly transparent.

Next Week:  The House continues its August district work period.

In the 16th District:

OH-16 Mayors

This week, I had the pleasure of individually meeting with six mayors from the district: Mayor Patton of Fairview Park, Mayor Kennedy of North Olmsted, Mayor Laubaugh of Wadsworth, Mayor Held of North Canton, Mayor Handwerk of Orrville, and Mayor Schulz of Canal Fulton.  I always enjoy hearing from our local officials about the progress of their cities and what I can do to help.  It is a great way to keep my to-do list up-to-date as I head back to the nation's capital.

North Canton Rotary Club

I spoke at the North Canton Rotary Club meeting this week to provide them with a Washington update and to learn the updates in their community.

Thank you to North Canton Rotary President Jason Smith for gifting me with the book "Abraham Lincoln and his Four sons" - I had the honor of being asked to sign the book before it is placed in the North Canton Public Library.
