Dear Friend,

Happy belated Father’s Day to all the men who helped shape us into the people we are today; to the father figures who put the needs of others before their own and taught us the values we now pass down to the next generation.  Thank you for all that you do.

Also, another big ‘congratulations’ to the Cavs!  It was an exciting week for Cleveland as we brought home a championship title after 52 years of waiting.  For this year's NBA Finals I made a friendly wager with Steph Curry’s Congressman, U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier.  This week, he carried through with his end of the bargain and delivered California wine to our district’s office in D.C. (pictured below).

Washington Wrap-Up

This Week:  The House passed the funding package to fight the spread of the Zika virus.  A package the House and Senate configured together.  The House also focused on budget enforcement efforts, tax reform, and ways to improve our health care system.

Next Week:  The House is in recess so there will not be votes.

The House Budget Committee

Congress must know when they vote on a piece of legislation if it will break the federal budget. This week, the House Budget Committee held a hearing on ways to make budget enforcement more effective.  That is why I discussed the importance of my bill - the Budget Enforcement Awareness Resolution - to hold members accountable to the federal budget.  We must work to reduce our nation's debt so we don't leave the burden for our children and grandchildren, and an important first step is to abide by the budget we set.  Families and businesses are held accountable to following the budget they set for themselves; Washington should not be any different.

Congressional Art Competition Winner

Kathryn Semus from Medina High School is this year’s Congressional Art Competition winner.  It was great to show Kathryn where her artwork was placed in the United States Capitol.  Her piece titled 'Emerging Sister' will be hung in the Capitol for one year.  Thank you to everyone for their participation this year. We have very impressive talent in the 16th Congressional District of Ohio.

In the 16th District:

Grant Thornton

After graduating college I went to work for Grant Thornton as a CPA specializing in their health care accounting practice. This week, I was invited to speak at one of their meetings in northeast Ohio to discuss what I am doing in Washington to help make our tax code the most competitive in the world.

Mission BBQ

We are proud to welcome Mission BBQ’s newest location to North Canton and soon to be Parma. The North Canton location opened on June 20th and has already raised approximately $2,000 each for the Jackson Township Fire Department (IAFF Union) and the Jackson Township Police Department (Lloyd Seifert FOP), along with over $4,000 for the USO of Northern Ohio. Thank you for the great work you do for our community.
