Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced they would delay the release of the hospital star ratings.

“In response to hospital and other stakeholder feedback, CMS has announced a new timeline for the first release of Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings,” CMS stated.

Renacci and Pascrell led the effort in sending a letter to CMS – along with 223 other members – urging this delay.

“This is a great win for hospitals in Northeast Ohio and across the country.  We are pleased to see that CMS acknowledges our concerns with the current ratings and will use this extra time to improve their rating system and educate hospitals. We will continue to ensure Americans receive the most accurate information in order to make the best decisions for their health,” Rep. Renacci, co-leader of the letter, said.

“The Hospital Compare Star Ratings are meant to help inform consumers’ health and wellness decisions, so we need to make sure that they are reflective of an institution’s true quality,” Rep. Pascrell, co-leader of the letter, said. “We appreciate that CMS listened to our calls to delay the release of the ratings and will continue to consider feedback from stakeholders. We urge CMS to continue to work with the hospital community to address concerns with the methodology and ensure that it produces accurate results.”

Renacci has represented the 16th district of Ohio since 2011 and sits on the Ways and Means Committee and Budget Committee.
