Washington, DC—Today, Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement in support of the bi-partisan plan to cut spending and avoid a federal government default:

“Although this legislation is far from perfect, I will vote in support this bi-partisan bill because it cuts spending by more than it raises our borrowing limit, contains no tax increases, guarantees a vote in the House and Senate on a balanced budget amendment, and avoids a costly default.

“This is not the ultimate answer to solving Washington’s addiction to spending, nor is it the ideal plan. It is, however, a significant step in the right direction and the best possible deal for the people of Ohio, especially because it does not raise taxes on families or our small businesses. The fight to restore fiscal sanity in Washington will be long and difficult. The vote I will cast today is the first round, and it ensures I remain in the ring battling against the reckless spending practices that have derailed our economy and stifled job creation.”

Congressman Renacci is serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Financial Services Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
