Washington, DC—Today, Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement on his vote against legislation H.R. 2693 in the House of Representatives:
“Last evening my colleagues and I in the House passed a plan that would bring our massive deficits under control and start the process of balancing the federal budget. Key to my support of this proposal was that it would end our debt crisis and avoid a default. Several hours after our bill passed, the Senate voted it down.
“The House has now acted twice to provide the Senate a responsible path forward – one that will avoid a downgrade of our credit rating. Thus far, Harry Reid’s Senate has failed to pass a single piece of legislation to avoid default, and has been mired in debate over a bill that is full of the same old Washington budget gimmicks and fantasy reforms. I could not in good conscience support legislation that raises the debt ceiling by trillions of dollars without making the cuts necessary to put our nation back on a fiscally sustainable trajectory.”
Congressman Renacci is serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he is a member of the Financial Services Committee. Prior to his election he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the health care industry, and owned and operated over 60 other businesses in the automotive and sports management fields.
