Washington, DC—Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) today voted in support of H.J.Res. 44, a short-term Continuing Resolution that will prevent a government shutdown by funding government operations for two weeks.
“While I am pleased the House has given the Democrat-led Senate yet another opportunity to put aside partisan politics to prevent a government shutdown, it is clear that additional spending cuts are needed in order to help create jobs and end our nation’s spending-driven debt crisis,” Renacci said. “This short-term resolution is just buying more time for Congress to do what the Democrat majority failed to do—complete the budget process and pass funding bills in an open and transparent manner. Last year, it was the Democrats who failed to produce a budget or pass any appropriations bills, forcing the government to operate through a series of continuing resolutions, and this is no way for the federal government to operate. I look forward to building upon the spending cuts included in this short-term CR and working in a bipartisan manner to change the culture of Washington by making the spending cuts the American people have demanded and putting our nation back on track to job creation and a revived economy.”
The short-term CR includes $4 billion in spending cuts, an amount that, taken over time, would equal the $100 billion in cuts passed in H.R. 1, the original House-passed CR.
