Washington, DC-- Today, Congressman Jim Renacci (OH-16) released the following statement celebrating the legacy of former President Ronald Reagan on what would have been his 100th birthday this Sunday:

“In his Inaugural Address in January 1981, Ronald Reagan remarked, ‘our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.’

Much like the state of our nation today, Reagan assumed the presidency with the American economy in a dire state. Yet through his optimism and keen understanding of the role that government ought to play in our republic, President Reagan advanced policies that fostered economic growth, curbed inflation, increased employment, and strengthened our national defense. By the end of his administration, America entered its longest recorded period of prosperity without recession or depression.

I remain inspired by President Reagan’s service to our country and his many accomplishments throughout his presidency.  Let this anniversary of his birth remind us all that working tirelessly for the good of the country, we can overcome any obstacles that we face as Americans.”
