WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) will be hosting a veterans mobile office hours event at the S.A.L.T. BOX Ministries, 408 Market St. W, Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614 on April 26th from 3-5:30 pm.
At this event, veterans can learn about and sign up for local, state, and federal benefits. If a veteran needs their DD-214, medals, service treatment records, personnel file, or a copy of their VBA file, individuals will be on hand to assist in completing and filing these requests. Veterans can also check the status of their VA claim, do an intent to file, or just learn about benefits they may be due.
The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Regional Office (VARO), National Cemetery Administration, and the Stark County Veterans’ Service Commission will join Congressman Renacci’s veterans’ staffers. The Cleveland Veterans Affairs Regional Office (VARO) will be present to assist with claims questions. The VARO will be able to pull up the status of a claim and talk with veterans about their claim. They will also be able to assist in filing a compensation or pension claim.
The National Cemetery Administration will be on hand to assist with preneed eligibility and national cemetery questions. In 2016, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs began issuing pre-need determination letters to assist veterans with their preneed arrangements. The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) will have staff on hand to determine eligibility for healthcare benefits and answer health care questions.
The Stark County Veterans’ Service Commission will be on hand to assist veterans with county and state benefits. Congressman Renacci will have staff present to promote the Veterans’ History Project and answer federal benefits questions. A veteran may obtain a Veterans ID card through the Stark County Recorder, provided they bring $1 and a copy of their DD-214 or other discharge document.
The following organizations will also have representatives in attendance:
Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA)
Library of Congress Veterans History Project
Serving Area Military, Veterans, and Widows - SAM Center
Pegasus Farms: Military Family Center
Stark County Veterans' Service Commission
Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery
Community Legal Aid Services Veterans Legal Team
If a veteran has a question concerning any earned benefit, one of the subject matter experts will be present to assist them. The Canal Fulton area, 44614, is home to 1191 veterans. Only 20% of the veterans in the Canal Fulton area are signed up for VA healthcare.
