Akron, OH - On August 9th from 12-4:00 P.M., Congressman Renacci will be hosting a veterans’ mobile office hours at Garfield Memorial Post 566, 2974 Cormany Road, Akron, OH 44319.

At this event, veterans can learn about and sign up for local, state and federal benefits. If a veteran needs their DD-214, service medals, service treatment records, personnel file, or a copy of their VBA file, my staff will be on hand to assist in filing these requests.

The Cleveland Veterans Affairs Regional Office (VARO) will be able to pull up the status of a claim, complete an intent to file and talk with veterans about their claim. They will also be able to assist in filing a compensation or pension claim. This provides an opportunity for veterans to speak directly with the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding service compensation.

The National Cemetery Administration will be on hand to assist with preneed eligibility and national cemetery questions. In 2016, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs began issuing pre-need determination letters to assist veterans with their preneed arrangements. The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) will have staff on hand to determine eligibility for healthcare benefits and answer health care questions.

The Summit County Veterans’ Service Commission will be on hand to assist veterans with county and state benefits. If a veteran has a question concerning any earned benefit, one of the subject matter experts will be present to assist them.

Community Legal Aid, a nonprofit law firm, will be on hand to help veteran with family law, taxes, wills, powers of attorney, foreclosures, or debt collection. Community Legal Aide will be joined by the Taxpayer Advocate Service. The Taxpayer Advocate Service is your voice at the IRS. If a veteran is having a tax problem that he/she hasn’t been able to resolve on their own, the Advocates may be able to help.  An individual may be eligible for Taxpayer Advocate assistance if the IRS problem is causing financial difficulty or one believes an IRS procedure just isn't working as it should.
